Using Sunbeds Correctly

Using a sunbed can be a convenient way to achieve a tan, especially when outdoor sun exposure isn't an option. However, it’s important to use sunbeds correctly to ensure safety and achieve the best results. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about using a sunbed properly.

Consult with a Professional

Before starting any tanning regimen, consult with a dermatologist or a professional at a reputable tanning salon. They can assess your skin type and recommend the best approach for you.

Know Your Skin Type

Understanding your skin type is crucial as it determines how long you should stay in the sunbed and the frequency of your sessions. Skin types range from 1 (very fair, burns easily) to 6 (very dark, rarely burns), we have included the Fitzpatrick Scale for you to use against your skin.

Choose a Reputable Tanning Salon

Ensure the salon is clean, well-maintained, and follows proper safety protocols. The staff should be knowledgeable and able to answer any questions you may have about the process.

Apply Tanning Accelerator

Apply a Tanning Accelerator, our Sweet Bronze Cream and Gels are made with organic ingredients and contain Coconut Oil which sooths skin inflammation. including redness caused by sun exposure & Walnut Oil which is high in antioxidants, preventing skin damage and aging, amongst other natural ingredients, our ingredients are listed with each product.

Avoid Sunburn

Monitor your skin closely after each session. If you notice any signs of sunburn, allow your skin to heal before your next session. Overexposure can lead to severe skin damage.

Start Slow

For beginners, start with short sessions, usually between 5-7 minutes. Gradually increase the time as your skin builds a base tan. Never exceed the recommended exposure time.

Use Protective Eyewear

Wear goggles provided by the salon to protect your eyes from UV radiation. Closing your eyes is not sufficient as UV rays can penetrate the eyelids.

Maintain Proper Hygiene

Ensure the sunbed is sanitised before and after use. Most salons provide disinfectant wipes to clean the bed’s surface.

Hydrate and Moisturise

Drink plenty of water before and after your session to keep your skin hydrated. Our Extreme Cream moisturisers your skin for up to 24 hours after use, preventing your skin from drying out.

Limit Frequency

Do not use the sunbed more than 3 times per week. Your skin needs time to repair and produce melanin between sessions.
